There was a split second there where his like, “wait, what? bro what are you doing?”
On more serious note, PTSD dogs for veterans are so fucking therapeutic. They’re like the one person you can spill your guts to and never worry about ever being judged or have that secret divulged. There are times when I definitely prefer the company of a dog over a human.

Therapy animals save lives.

These dogs are even still so much more amazing. They check rooms before their handler enters, so they can clear it to help the person feel safe. Like in the gif, they are there when panic attacks or nightmares occur, to be something for the person to help ground themselves on, or yes just to turn on the lights. Even more amazing, many people are able to reduce their medication when they have a PTSD service dog there to help them. These dogs are useful for not just veterans, but also victims of abuse, accident trauma, natural disasters, and others. Their training allows them to be useful in situations where medical assistance is needed, as well. Some PTSD dogs are trained to recognize repetitive behaviours in handlers, and signal the handler to break the repetition and stopping the behaviour and possibly injury.
Service dogs in general are just awesome. Remember to respect any that you see out in public. They are not there for you to walk up to and play with, even the puppies!

Tagged in a macguffin by sa-angreal. I’m gonna do it because reasons.

1) Always post the rules.
2) Answer the questions from the person who tagged you and write eleven questions for them to answer.
3)Tag eleven people and link them to the post.
(sam tagged most people i know on here if you wanna do this just consider yourself tagged!)
4) Let that person know they were tagged

Onwards, for great justice.

Favourite blog?

hmm. Sam’s (above) isn’t bad. Medievalpoc is pretty interesting. Ehh, I dunno that I have a favorite.

Favourite drink?

Fruit juice, my red berry tea from the london tea company or whatever it’s called… hot chocolate.. hmm, Alcohol wise I don’t drink most stuff, but I do like Absinthe and I’ve started having Pernot and coke, because it tastes pretty similar.

Look out of the nearest window. What’s the first thing you notice?

the bloody depressing looking cloudy sky.

Song you most recently listened to.

My vita is just out of reach. Probably…. something by Jinn, the japanese alt rock band? Maybe something from the kill la kill ost? Or else probably Ken ashcorp.

Place you most recently went.

liverpool, for my parent’s friends’ wedding. The city is actually rather nice, both ‘pool and hull have a reputation for being scumholes but they’re actually some of the nicer cities I’ve seen. Far better than london or derby.

Would you prefer a rainstorm or hottest day of the year tomorrow?

i would be quite happy with either. If pressed I’d probably go with the rainstorm. Would there be thunder? i love thunder.

Something you couldn’t live without.

Eh, barring the obvious, droll answers of oxygen and stuff, my laptop probably. Sad as it is, it’s my main source of entertainment and I’ve got little else I actually value that much.

Something you spent far too much money on recently.

the thing that springs to mind is probably the homestuck kickstarter, which i spent 90 quid on so I’d get the awesome derse dreamer shirt and the tarot deck (both of which are fantastic). That was like, a year ago though? More recently maybe buying age of wonders 3 at launch because I wanted to? That’s about it. More lots of little things than big things.

A character you relate to on a spiritual level. Why?

Karkat and kanaya from homestuck are on the top of my mind. Karkat cos he’s a sweetie and loves and values his friends, he’s just grown up without knowing how to express it and It’s something I really related to at the time I first read it, having just found some friends I actually felt comfortable with. Kanaya because she’s a beaut and I love her and how restrained and adorable she is.

Non-hs wise, maybe lelouch from code geass? He’s pretty great, he’s all machiavellian sociopath with a byronic malcontent streak a mile wide but really finds a way to put his skills to good use and seems far happier for it. I’m of course not machiavellian at all and am far closer morally to Suzaku, but I relate to Lelouch on the upbringing and motivation level.

Do you like weddings?

topical, considering where I was this past weekend, hm. I imagine I would providing it was the wedding of someone I knew and liked, but the one I went to recently was a lot of sitting around with people i’ve never seen before and don’t really care about.

Top five favourite books/tv series/films. (you get to choose. Or all of them!)

oh lordie, this is far too much power for one being to handle!

Hm, Definetly homestuck and code geass, pacific rim was pretty grand. Avengers and the marvel universe films are great, but everyone likes them near enough. How about favorite shakespeare play? Othello is mine, though hamlet and king lear run close. Books, hm…. The Life and Extraordinary Adventures of Private Ivan Chonkin by Vladimir Voinevich was surprisingly really good, would recommend to everyone. Picture of Dorian grey was great too, resonated with me a lot.

That’s more than five isn’t it?

hoo boy. I suppose I should drop at least some tags here. beth, matt, T-dog, haru-chan, vashbebop

Engineering company Festo is creating robots based on nature

German engineering firm Festo is creating a robot army. Sounds scary, right? But there’s no need to fear a “Skynet”-type apocalypse quite yet, because these robots want to do good by making laborious tasks easier in the factories of the future. And they’re using nature as their inspiration.

Festo summarizes the motivation behind their research on their website: “Gripping, moving, controlling and measuring – nature performs all of these tasks instinctively, easily and efficiently. What could be more logical than to examine these natural phenomena and learn from them?”
